A Symposium Held in Jiaxing for the 150th Anniversary of Mr. Shen Junru’s Birth
Yesterday morning, a symposium to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Mr. Shen Junru’s birth was held in Jiaxing. Ding Zhongli, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, also chairman of China Democratic League delivered a speech at the symposium, which was also attended by Wang Wenxu, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, also director of the Department of the United Front Work of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, and Zhao Guangjun, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People’s Congress of Zhejiang. Those also delivered speeches such as the leaders from the Department of the United Front Work of the CPC Central Committee and from the Supreme People’s Court, Cheng Yuechong, vice chairman of the CPPCC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, also chairman of Zhejiang Provincial Committee of China Democratic League, Chen Wei, secretary of the CPC Jiaxing Municipal Committee, as well as Mr. Shen Jungru’s family members, experts and scholars. Besides, the leaders of Jiaxing such as Chen Lizhong, Li Xiaoping and Zhou Liankun attended the symposium as well.
Ding Zhongli said Shen Junru was a great patriot, a democrat, a famous social activist, a legal educator, a great leader of China Democratic League, and a close friend of the Communist Party of China (CPC); he devoted his whole life to the cause of Chinese revolution and construction, and made immortal contributions to China’s peace, democracy, unity and solidarity; to commemorate Mr. Shen Junru was to learn from his political belief in closely cooperating and sharing weal and woe with the CPC, to continue the China Democratic League’s fine tradition of resolutely following and supporting the CPC and to build broader political consensus for the cause of multi-party cooperation in the new era; we must learn from his patriotism of working for the nation and people and his efforts in national prosperity and rejuvenation; we must learn from his virtuous and self-disciplined qualities, noble morality, good work style, and persistence in face of the ever-changing changes with constant maintenance.
All organizations of China Democratic league must rally more closely around the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, fully implement the guiding principles from the Party’s 20th National Congress and the second and third plenary sessions of the 20th CPC Central Committee, earnestly shoulder the glorious mission of the participating party of the socialism with Chinese characteristics, and contribute more to advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization.
Cheng Yuechong said Mr. Shen Junru, born in Jiaxing, was a great patriot and democrat with foresight and vision. We must inherit, learn from and carry forward his firm loyalty to the motherland, people and law, remember his character of seeking truth from facts, firmly adhering to principles, faithfully performing duties, and better shoulder the mission and responsibility; we must remain true to the original cooperation aspiration, always adhere to the leadership of the CPC, and constantly consolidate and deepen the common ideological and political foundation for the multi-party cooperation; we must continue the fine tradition, improve ourselves in all respects and comprehensively strengthen our ability to perform duties; we must keep the overall situation in mind, implement the requirements of narrowing urban-rural, regional and income gaps, take high-quality development as top priority, reform and innovation as fundamental driving forces, and meeting people’s needs for a better life as our fundamental purpose, and carry out high-quality political consultation, democratic oversight, and participation in the deliberation and administration of state affairs to improve social services, demonstrate the advantages and effectiveness of China’s new-type political party systems, and contribute Zhejiang’s wisdom and strengths to writing a new chapter of Chinese modernization.
Chen Wei said Jiaxing is known as a “Land of Fish and Rice” “Capital of Silk” and “Land of Prosperity”; since modern times, historical figures and events had converged into Jiaxing’s multi-party cooperation culture; Mr. Shen Junru was the pride of the people of Jiaxing; the best memorial to Mr. Wang was to make his hometown Jiaxing more beautiful; in recent years, all localities and government departments of Jiaxing had followed the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, faithfully implemented “Double-Eight Development Strategy” and achieved firm progress in building Jiaxing into a central city of the city cluster of the Yangtze River Delta; in the future, we would firmly act on General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important guidelines on the Party’s work of the united front of the new era, learn from revolutionists and heroes, vigorously carry forward the “Spirit of Red Boat” and revolutionary culture, cooperate closely with democratic parties to push ahead with high-quality development and make more contributions to advancing Chinese modernization.
After the symposium, the participants went to Shen Junru Memorial Hall, presented flower baskets to the statue of Mr. Shen Junru, witnessed the official unveiling of the “Education Base of Rule of Law Culture of National Courts”, and visited Shen Junru’s Life and Historical Relics Exhibition theme on “Patriotic Model”.
